OUR MINISTRIES

Scottville UMC is currently in the midst of a ministry evaluation process to help us determine where God is calling us to reach out in new ways to our community. We are always ready to seek new opportunities to show Christ. Come and join us.

Bible Studies

Scottville UMC has frequent short and longer term Bible studies to help "Grow in Christ." Some studies are "straight" Bible book studies, others are topical studies to help members and non-members alike to grow in their path as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our short-term plans to are to expand our study opportunities to provide on-going learning for persons at all stages of their faith journey.

Music

Scottville United Methodist Church is well-known for its excellent traditional music programs. Most Sundays (from September through May) the Chancel Choir sings at the morning worship service. On the fourth Sunday of the month our Handbell Choir leads us. Worship singing includes both traditional hymns and more contemporary praise music.

Our hope for the future is to add a worship service that will incorporate a more contemporary music foundation in order to appeal to a variety of tastes.

On frequent occasions, church leaders arrange for Southern Gospel groups to visit the area and sing at the church or in the community.

Youth

Scottville UMC youth meets from 6 - 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

Community Service

Scottville UMC is known for its many outreach and service activities, everything from hosting classes for the Mason-Lake Adult Education program to Red Cross Blood Drives to a weekly Community Table that provides good quality meals to community members on a donation basis to hosting weeks for the Mason County Hospitality, INC rotating winter homeless shelter. Scottville UMC is also the Mason County collection site for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes and is actively involved in the Mason County CROP/Hunger Walk each fall. Our mission outreach is ever growing and increasing as we find opportunities and passion within our community.

Sunday School

Our Sunday School program (for children under 10 years) is held during the church service on Sunday mornings, led by several volunteers from our church congregation under the leadership of our Christian Education directors, Karen Petersen and Liz Stark.  We also have a fine nursery available for infants and toddlers.
